History: Where did you and your ancestors come from and what can we learn from them?
Geography: Where do you want to go?
Citizenship: Who are you and who will you become as a citizen?
As a fourth grade social studies student you learn a lot about Wisconsin. Here are some things that you will be learning!
History
Do you know that sheets of ice called glaciers, over a mile thick, once covered parts of Wisconsin? Can you name the first people who walked the land of Wisconsin? Can you name at least four of the wars that Wisconsin was a part of and the order in which they occurred? What about United States Presidents? You see their pictures on money, but can you place them in their time period? You will understand that people study the past so that they do not make the same mistakes in the future.
Geography
Can you find North America on a map? What about the United States or Wisconsin? Do you know the seven continents and four oceans and where they are on a globe? Do you know your address? You will by the end of fourth grade.
Citizenship
Do you know what the Declaration of Independence or the U.S. Constitution are? Can you name the Capitol of the state of Wisconsin and locate where it is? Have you thought about what you want to do when you grow up? Do you know that the word agriculture means the same thing as the word farming and that many people in Wisconsin have jobs connected to farming? Have you ever had a job or thought about starting your own business? Do you know why people have to pay taxes? You will by the end of fourth grade!
